Save our headteacher
The Issue
Ask the White Horse Federation to let our school keep our headteacher.
The White Horse Federation (WHF) want to make St Mary's headteacher redundant, replacing the post with a principal who will have leadership of three primary schools.
We are concerned that it is not possible for one person to meet the leadership needs of three separate schools.
The Principal already looks after primary schools in Semington and Seend, and if they are to take on St Mary's too, the children at Semington and Seend will be receiving far less attention to their schools as a result. This decision is effecting hundreds of pupils and parents.
It's a money thing.
Whilst there has been no official explanation yet from the WHF about why they have decided to share one Principal across three schools, a number of responses to independent parent letters to the WHF suggest that money is at the heart of the matter. The WHF's CEO is one of the highest paid academy chiefs in the country, with an annual salary of £220,000. The average salary for a primary headteacher is £55,000. There is enough money to go around.
Ask The White Horse Federation to let us keep our headteacher.
If we lose our headteacher, the time and attention our school gets from its leadership will be reduced by two thirds, a set-up which is not in the best interests of the pupils. We want the best for our children, and dedicated management is essential to the wellbeing of their school.
If you think St Mary's Primary school in Broughton Gifford should have a headteacher, please sign the petition and ask the White Horse Federation to let us keep our headteacher. They are planning to give leadership of the school to the tri-school principal in September 2021, please help us to convince them to do the right thing.
About our headteacher
The headteacher of St Mary's is Mrs Pauline Orchard, who has really cared for our school over the years. Under her leadership we have gained a new school hall, running track, outdoor learning space and new playground equipment. Mrs Orchard knows all the children's names and their families, makes time to read with the children, and greets everyone at the school gate every morning. Our children would lose a fantastic figurehead from their school life if we lose our headteacher.
