I'm Madesta Jackson Schmeling, founder of FUTUREMVP Inc., a nonprofit born from heartbreak and purpose. I lost my son, Wesley Leo Schmeling, a gifted student-athlete with boundless drive and a generous heart, to a preventable school sports injury. As a sports mom of two boys, I turned grief into action—advocating for safety reforms so no family endures what mine did.

Too many young athletes are injured or lost because school sports lack basic safety.

Coaches aren’t trained in emergency response. Injury protocols are outdated. Oversight is unfunded. And there’s no system to track injuries or prevent recurrence.

We’re changing that—with The Wes Act, in honor of my son, Wesley Leo Schmeling.

This legislation will:

Require annual sports safety training
Mandate emergency plans for every school team
Track injuries to create accountability
Expand readiness screenings, including EKGs
Equip schools with heat safety tools
