In December 2016, Walt Disney released Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which has since gone on to be viewed as the best Star Wars film of the Disney era.

  However it wasn't all smooth sailing for the film, which underwent extensive reshoots and was ghost directed by Tony Gilroy. The evident reason for this is that the original version was "too dark". With the December 2021 being the 5th anniversary of the film, it would seem the perfect time to release Rogue One as originally envisioned by Gareth Edwards.

  This wouldn't be unprecedented, as Warner Bros. recently released "The Snyder Cut" of Justice League to HBO MAX to great success. The film could even be released on physical media in packaging that resembles the death star plans.  

  This might also help reunite Star Wars fans, who've been strongly devided over the Sequel Trilogy. Once again having one movie to agree upon and bond might go a long to help mend the fractured fanbase.

  This would also allow fans to spend more time with characters like Jyn Erso,  K2SO, Cassian Andor, Chirrut Immwe, Baze Malbus, Bodhi Rook, Saw Gerrera and more.
