
Today Bahamian Prime Minister Minnis spoke about the continuing hardships from the devastating Hurricane Dorian a year ago. He said “we must rebuild for a new time in our history as we address with resilience and fortitude the many effects of climate change, including more powerful storms and rising sea levels. I have no doubt that we will build back better”.
Disney can lead the way in helping The Bahamas “build back better” by reconsidering its current plans for a massive cruise ship port at Lighthouse Point in light of the realities of a changing climate.
Disney’s Environmental Impact Assessment for Lighthouse Point - now pending the government’s initial technical review after eight months- should provide the opportunity for an informed public conversation on a better and more sustainable future for Eleuthera and The Bahamas.
