On November 8th, we sent to Disney a detailed letter from 24 independent scientists and experts setting out the technical case against Disney’s plans to build a massive cruise ship port at Lighthouse Point. 

We are pleased to report that Disney felt compelled to respond in just 3 days! 

Disney acknowledged the concerns that the scientists had about the impact of the proposed massive cruise port on the coral reefs and other ecosystems on and around the Point. But what Disney failed to do is to address the key points in the letter. 

In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, business as usual is no longer acceptable in a changing climate. We need Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) like the one proposed for Lighthouse Point to assure the resiliency of our oceans already under pressure. Disney must take into account climate change and MPAs in its environmental assessment of the proposed project.

The Last Chance campaign is starting to regain momentum following a six-week pause following Hurricane Dorian in early September.
