Petition updateSTOP Disney - Last Chance for Lighthouse Point“People Are Suffering. People Are Dying. Entire Ecosystems Are Collapsing.”

These quoted words are from Greta Thunberg’s recent powerful speech to the United Nations. People in The Bahamas have experienced first hand the damage from more severe storms expected from climate change. On September 1st, Hurricane Dorian devastated The Bahamas. More than 60 people died, hundreds of people remain missing, thousands lost their homes, and nearly 1.5 million gallons of oil were spilled.  We immediately paused our campaign; and our partners have been focused on the relief and recovery still underway.

Today we are relaunching our Last Chance campaign. Saving Lighthouse Point and the surrounding oceans is more pressing than ever. Persuading Disney to move its proposed cruise port to a more appropriate site is more important than ever.

Yet Disney is still moving forward with plans to develop a cruise ship port in a proposed Marine Protected Area (MPA) at Lighthouse Point. We need MPAs to keep oceans strong and resilient in a changing climate. Disney should be taking actions to deal with climate change, not actions that will make it worse.

Almost 110,000 people have already joined our campaign. We hope we can count on you to encourage friends and contacts to sign onto our petition.

Share the petition on your Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the first time, or again—and tag us when you do. There are people who might have missed it last time on your page. There are people who might be feeling more compelled to stand up for our Earth.

As Greta Thunberg said “There is no middle ground when it comes to the climate and ecological emergency.”

Keep up the fight for Lighthouse Point and our planet!
