Earlier this week, we wrote to you to encourage donations for the relief efforts now just starting on Grand Bahama and Abaco, which were devastated by Hurricane Dorian. This is personal for us since three of our campaign partners live on Grand Bahama.
Bahamas Stunned as Hurricane Recedes: ‘It’s Like a Bomb Went Off’ This is the headline of a New York Times article that includes the plight of one of our partners, Rashema Ingraham, the Executive Director of Waterkeepers Bahamas. All of our partners and their families survived; but as Rashema points out, the needs are enormous.
One of our other partners, Waterkeeper Alliance, is collecting funds for Save the Bays — home to the four Waterkeeper groups in The Bahamas — to assist in the rebuilding of their office and for the distribution of relief goods to communities following Hurricane Dorian. To contribute, please click here and select “Hurricane Dorian – Bahamas” from the gift designation dropdown.
By being one of almost 100,000 people who signed the Last Chance for Lighthouse Point petition, you have already made a difference to our partners in The Bahamas who are standing up against Disney’s plans to build a cruise ship port in a unique natural site and proposed Marine Protected Area. Now our partners — and the people of Grand Bahama and Abaco — need your help. Every donation matters.
