Justice for Luke and the original Star Wars

Justice for Luke and the original Star Wars
La causa
I've loved Star Wars since I was a child. My dad recorded the original trilogy for my siblings and I to watch it, first on Beta and then on VHS. We lived in Ecuador so finding original editions was not easy. I still remember the commercials that played between the movie scenes. We knew every line by heart since we would rewind the films again and again and again... and again!
I loved the sarcastic and brave Han Solo, the fearless and natural born leader Leia. But most of all, I loved Luke. Luke was a hero, Luke was HOPE incarnated. Luke was not only the person you wanted to have as a friend but the person YOU wanted to BE.
A few weeks ago we almost had to put our little dog to sleep. She has been with us for 15 years so it was a shock. I went to the kitchen to prepare what I thought would be her last meal and I needed support from music, so I access YouTube and let it chose for me.
Suddenly, "Funeral Pyre for a Jedi" was surrounding me. Suddenly, I saw the face of Luke while mourning his father, and suddenly, I felt supported. I understood that pain was universal, that pain could be overcome and, after being understood, that pain could shape us into better people, just as it had shaped Luke, the ORIGINAL and REAL Luke.
While clearing my tears I realized, also suddenly, why I was so upset with what "The last Jedi" and company did to Luke. They had KILLED him. That grumpy, green-milk drinker, quitter is NOT Luke.
And why is it important to honor the original Luke? Because of what I felt in the kitchen that sad day, because of what "The toys that made us" said about how a sad child could go back home after a bad day and find his FRIEND Luke in the form of an action figure waiting for him and suddenly feel better, because of what true heroes represent (it doesn't matter if they are male or female): courage, empathy, optimism, never giving up...
Luke was a HERO, Luke was a fighter, Luke was hope. He would had NEVER tried to kill his nephew. He didn't even try to kill his father, for heaven's sake! He was willing to die in order to save him. And so He DID save him through his actions.
So I created this petition to honor the REAL Luke Skywalker and the great actor that portrayed him, Mark Hamill, and to thank them both for the hope and courage they've given me through my whole life. I still have my Luke action figure and I love it. Whenever I'm sad I think of Luke and I feel stronger.
Movies are not just entertainment, they compare to the stories that the first humans sat to listen around the fire after a good or bad day. They teach us about life, they help us to understand the world, and most of all, they give as hope when we need it.
I won't be watching the last Star Wars movie. And not because I'm white and misogynist, as some people claim the angry fans are. I'm female, from Ecuador, and I don't like what Disney has done to Star Wars. I don't like what they've done to Luke.
George Lucas' Luke is my hero, the archetype I want to honor and cherish. Disney's Luke is what mr. Hamill said: not Luke but, perhaps, his cousin Jake.
Seeing what the GOT petition achieved, to make our voice be heard, I hope that this petition could help us feel better and also send love and honor to the original Luke and the great Mark Hamill.
