Why this petition matters

Marvel and DC Comics have been known to not compensate their artists, writers, and creators fairly, especially when their work heavily influences a major movie or tv that becomes a huge success. Such is the case with David Aja and the new Disney Plus Hawkeye Series.

It is clear that Disney/Marvel is using the artwork influence by Aja on his work on the Hawkeye series from 2012.

We can see a clear influence with the promo poster and the opening credits scene in Episode 1. Aja has not been given any compensation for this. Even though we don’t know what his contract stipulated with his work and that Disney/Marvel may not have any legal requirement to do so, this is more about doing what is fair and right, especially when the company is taking advantage of this to make more money off of it.

For years, this has been a common experience for creatives where their work was written to be a one and done, but sign away the rights to the publisher. With the even more popular trend of making tv series and movies based on the existing work that comics writers and artists created instead of creating their own original material, it’s even more important to hold them accountable and to support these creatives who aren’t given enough credit and compensation by the companies who own the rights to their work when they use it to make more money and cut them out of it.
For David, we hope that Disney/Marvel can at least give David (and Fraction) a bigger credit in the opening credits  of the series (saying based on the work of fraction and Aja) and at least $50,000 compensation for his work.
