Bring Mara Jade Back Into Star Wars Canon

The Issue

This is a campaign to bring Mara Jade back into Star Wars canon. Depending on who you ask, Mara Jade is the most well known character in the Expanded Universe. Introduced in Heir to the Empire (the same book where Thrawn debuted), Mara originally served as the Emperor’s Hand, one of his best special agents. After the Battle of Endor, when she came across Luke Skyalker, she tried to kill him both out of loyalty to the Emperor and because of a mental command he left her before he died. Luke was able to help her break free of this control, and, while helping her hone her Force abilities in later books, they fell in love and eventually married. She was later killed by her nephew, Jacen Solo, in the "Legacy of the Force" book Sacrifice. The Force Awakens did a fine job of shoveling in Star Wars' longstanding gender divide, but there's always room for more diversity in the kinds of characters the series could introduce. Rey is our newest hero, and Captain Phasma is repping the side of villainy in the coolest stormtrooper armor ever conceived. Since we are getting Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels season 3 and Timothy Zahn is writing a new Thrawn book called Star Wars Thrawn, could we get Mara Jade in the new canon, and Mara Jade was another character created by Timothy Zahn. There's a popular fan theory that Rey could be the daughter of Luke Skywalker and if that is true, could that open the door to bring in Mara Jade. It would be an amzing crossover with having Mara Jade as the empeor's hand in Star Wars Rebels and as Luke Skywalker's wife In the sequel trilogy. At the end of The Force Awakens Luke is standing next to a rock that looks like a grave and could it be Mara Jade's grave as where Kylo Ren killed Mara Jade when he destroyed Luke's new Jedi order. With that being the case that would be another thing that the sequel trilogy is mirroring the expanded universe as where Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus killed Mara Jade. On the other hand could Mara Jade be another Jedi survivor of the attack. If we get Mara Jade or a Mara Jade like character in the sequel trilogy, I think it could be a force ghost, flashback, or Jedi Survior. I think it's possible Luke did get married during the events set between Return of the jedi and The force awakens.
