Close the overhead garage doors in frigid temperatures so the dogs can stay warm.

The Issue

I have been volunteering at The Humane Society of Walden for over two years and most recently became vice president. However, even with my newfound authority, I cannot persuade staff or fellow board members to take action. Leaving open these overhead, garage type doors, allows the extreme cold air to penetrate into the kennel area where the dogs are kept. To make matters worse, the guillotine doors, named for the way a thin metal sheet slides up and down inside a track, are also left open. This exposes the dogs to the cold and causes unnecessary suffering and stress. Most dogs are only given a thin bed sheet to keep warm because, "They just tear up the blankets". The floors are ice cold concrete. My hands are tied, so I ask all of you to help me bring awareness to this awful situation that these poor defenseless animals are subjected to. These dogs do not have a voice and depend on us to stick up for them. Please sign my petition so that we can bring about the necessary changes at this particular shelter. Its not fair that a few heartless self-serving people can do this and get away with it. Its all about them having a sense of control. DENNIS WAYNE PENNENGA
