Lottie Dean-Clist started this petition to The Vice Chancellor of University of Winchester and

SAVE OUR LECTURERS & SAVE THE ARTS!

University of Winchester students, Past, Present and Future!

This petition is calling on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Winchester to end the silence on the redundancies of Faculty of the Arts Lecturers.

It has been revealed that there is not enough money to employ these lecturers in subjects including, English, Creative Writing, Film, Media, Drama, Performing Arts and Dance. Subsequently, the UoW can afford new refurbishments, shiny ‘light-up’ signs and mapping a 40-million-pound development and ‘certain’ employee pay-rises.

These decisions have been made with little warning to staff or student involvement. Many of the lecturers set to lose their jobs have taught at our university for more than a decade. They have inspired thousands of creative minds and undertook research for the university, whilst continuing to teach and support their students.

How are we to ‘go where we feel most alive’ if we are learning in an environment of over-worked, under-staffed and unappreciated teachers?

As a soon-to-be alumni, I want to know WHY these decisions have been made? CHALLENGE their finality and SUPPORT our lecturers….

As the new branding so encourages us: “Be Curious. Dream Big. Give BACK!”
