Barry & Vale Harriers oppose a 3G pitch at Jenner Park

Barry & Vale Harriers oppose a 3G pitch at Jenner Park

The Issue

We need your support to prevent a 3g pitch being installed at Jenner Park. A 3g pitch at Jenner Park would have a devastating affect on the athletics community and therefore on the young people within the town. Barry & Vale Harriers would end its 100+ years association with the site and Welsh Schools and all other school user groups would no longer be able to hold athletics competitions at Jenner Park. A track would still be in-situ at Jenner Park, but there is a possibility of losing at least 2 lanes of track should a 3g be laid. There is a big difference between an athletics club and a running club.

As Barry & Vale Harriers are a non-profit making, competing club our young athletes have to take part in at least one or two field events, if the 3g goes ahead, none of our young athletes will be able to learn any of the field events prior to competitions. You cannot throw a javelin on a 3g pitch!

Our coaches and committee all give their time for free and with 120 plus young people, a disability athletics group and a large waiting list, we would hate to see this great club dissolve.

Barry & Vale Harriers are supportive of all sports, many of our athletes also play football. We are not opposed to a 3g pitch for the community, just not at Jenner Park. There are other sporting areas in Barry & the Vale that could accommodate a 3g pitch.

Please sign our petition and let the Vale of Glamorgan Council know that together we want to support sport for our young people at Jenner Park, a community facility should be for the community and not just football.
