Attn: Jim Macrae, M.A., M.P.P., Associate Administrator for Primary Health Care
Dear Mr. Macrae,
From the announcement above, the 2022 appropriations bill for the NIH signed into law on March 15 requires the NIH to advance research on maternal-fetal transmission of Lyme disease.
Maternal-fetal transmission of Lyme disease was first identified in 1985 (Allen Steere) and it has taken 37 years for our Public Health Officials to recognize and investigate only after an act of congress?

Congress Commends NIH Collaboration with Advocacy Groups to Advance Research on Maternal-Fetal Transmission of Lyme Disease (Please read this article!!)

The CDC has aligned itself with members of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) who have repeatedly stated that there is no evidence of Congenital Transmission of Lyme.
For Example:
-Eugene D. Shapiro, MD, et al., “Early Lyme Disease: A Flu- like Illness Without Erythema Migrans,” Pediatrics 91, (1993): 456-59
“There is no evidence that congenital Lyme disease is a problem”:
Advocate asks IDSA to remove false statement about Lyme transmission

Excerpt:
The following statement, which is number one on the list, is clearly false. “Lyme disease is caused by bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi that is ONLY transmitted to humans when they are bitten by an infected tick.”
CDC Publication:
Pregnancy and Lyme disease
https://www.lymedisease.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Pregnancy-and-Lyme-Disease-508.pdf
“There are no published studies assessing developmental outcomes of children whose mothers acquired Lyme disease during pregnancy”

Mr. Macrae, will you be questioning the CDC on the subject of Maternal-Fetal Transmission of Lyme Disease and their three decades long complacency in acknowledging the serious health issue while failing to alert the public and medical community?
A response to this inquiry is requested.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carl Tuttle
