Kiara Ehsani started this petition to The US Embassy

Through the current trade agreements, the US is putting pressure on Kenya to allow the US to import plastic products into Kenya, which will then be used as a hub to reach the rest of Africa. This is happening because the petroleum industries are looking to expand their market to Africa, as the New York Times puts it, "the industry is demanding a trade deal that weakens Kenya’s rules on plastics and on imports of American trash."

This means that the US will be able to use Kenya as a dumping site for all their trash that they claim is too expensive to recycle in the US due to labor costs. In reality, it just goes into the Kenyan landfills and adds to the growing mountains of plastic we have been working so hard to reduce since the plastic ban in 2017.

Uhuru Kenyatta, has made clear he is "eager to strike a deal", and the clear lobbying going on is causing a lot of concern to environmental groups. If we can get enough signatures on this petition, it will be possible to take to the US Embassy so that they can put pressure on the American Chemistry Council to stop this clear violation.
