TU: Reinstate Flexible Pass/D/Fail Grading Policy for Spring 2021

TU: Reinstate Flexible Pass/D/Fail Grading Policy for Spring 2021
The Issue
For the past two semesters, TU has been accommodating students during this tumultuous time by allowing us more flexibility in Pass/D/F grading. It has been a nice reassurance to students to know that we can declare any of our courses for Pass/D/F grading as we continue to navigate unknowns in the midst of an ongoing pandemic.
Unfortunately, TU has made the decision to revoke the flexible Pass/D/F grading options for the Spring 2021 semester. We ask that TU’s administration reconsider this decision and keep in mind that students’ well-being should be the top priority.
Simply put: nothing has changed. Students are still tasked with navigating virtual/hyperflex classes while trying to endure the pandemic and the various challenges that come with it. For students, the option to declare P/D/F grading offers some relief from the continuous hardships we are facing. Other universities across the U.S. have opted to continue their flexible grading policies, including UMD, Penn State, UNC, and UMass. We believe that TU should follow in these universities' footsteps and extend the flexible grading policy to Spring 2021.
