Why this petition matters

Throughout the entirety of her time on campus, Kelly Neidert has perpetuated a hostile environment by encouraging and disseminating transphobic, racist, and homophobic rhetoric. There have been several instances in which Kelly has intentionally misgendered people, doxed trans people with the intent of her followers harassing them, along with a countless number of other incidents that have sought to make the trans community here at the University of North Texas feel unwelcome. This latest string of push against her has come from a video, now with over one million views on Twitter, which depicted her recording another UNT student for calling her out for printing fliers that said, “ban childhood transitions,” a headline used in conservative media to push a narrative that trans kids are forced to undergo gender-affirming care. Under multiple sections of the University of North Texas’ student code of conduct, this kind of behavior is prohibited. This double standard that the University is setting is baffling, with several individuals who have commented have been forced to receive disciplinary action such as diversity and inclusion courses, yet Kelly has received no punishment from the University for the flagrant abusive and violent behavior that she has exhibited.

It is time to act against her on a larger level. The University will not do anything on their own, so it is up to us to force them to do something about the hateful actions of Kelly, along with the rest of the Young Conservatives of Texas. This petition represents that, this is our demand for the University of North Texas to own up to their calls for diversity and inclusion by holding the line and expelling Kelly for her consistent attempts at making the trans community feel invalid, unwelcome, and invisible. Even if we can’t get her expelled, it is our hope that this petition will deter anyone from hiring her for a very, very long time.
