Keep Mizzou's herpetology display!
The Issue
One of the outstanding attractions on the main campus of the University of Missouri, the herpetology exhibit in historic Stewart Hall displays live specimens of some of Missouri's most charismatic reptiles and amphibians. Originally organized by Dean Metter, the display has served the university and local community for over 50 years. The exhibit is a unique and powerful outreach tool to familiarize Missourians with the life sciences and the state’s wealth of natural resources. Long a favorite of visitors both young and old, this exhibit is slated to be terminated after the complete renovation of Stewart Hall in 2016-2017.
To commemorate the outstanding herpetological teaching, research, mentoring and outreach conducted by Dr. Raymond Semlitsch, former Curators’ Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences, the University of Missouri Herpetological Society proposes that the University name the herpetology exhibit in honor of Dr. Raymond Semlitsch.
