Reallocate the £5 million meant for a new animal holding facility to using alternative methods to animal research

The Issue

The University of Glasgow has recently approved £5 million to go to funding a new animal holding facility. In addition, the university has doubled the amount of animals used for animal research in the last 6 years. This is in direct opposition to the university's Animal Research Policy to reduce work involving animals.

We urge the university to cease plans for the development of the new animal holding facility. Instead of spending the £5 million on the animal holding facility, we urge the university to reallocate the money to implementing alternative methods to animal research. Alternative methods include using computer models, tissue culture, cell and molecular biology, and research with human subjects.
