Ban animal testing for good

The Issue

The issue we are trying to solve is Animal testing. This type of testing refers to procedures performed on living animals for the purposes of research, like finding cures for diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medical products, and testing the human health and environmental safety of consumers and industry. Animal testing was introduced in the twelfth century as an experimental method for testing surgical procedures before applying them to human patients. Each year, more than 115 million animals are bred, used, and disposed of as hazardous waste in research and product testing in the U.S. These millions of animals are poisoned, physically assaulted, operated on without anesthesia, and are painfully subjected to harmful toxins and chemicals on their skin, and their eyes. Animal testing is extremely cruel physically and psychologically.  Every day, animals used for Chemical Testing, as well as medical research, live in cold barren stainless steel cages, isolated and alone, they are denied all comfort, social contact, and stimulation. These animals never see daylight, sunlight, or breathe fresh air. They are afraid of humans and live in constant fear of the next experiment that is going to kill them, and that is why believe it should be banned. Testing on animals is inhumane.

As said by PETA, “More than 100 million animals suffer and die in the U.S. every year in cruel chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics tests as well as in medical training exercises and curiosity-driven medical experiments at universities. Animals also suffer and die in classroom biology experiments and dissection, even though modern non-animal tests have repeatedly been shown to have more educational value, save teachers time, and save schools money.” (PETA.org)  This shows that animal testing should be banned because the amount of animals that die in experimental testing is way too high, these animals aren't treated in a humane way, they are treated like nothing. Although there is the Animal Welfare Act, more than 99 percent of animals used in experiments are not covered by even the minimal protections of the act, and we believe that should be changed.

We need the government to make a law stating that animal testing is illegal. We also need the government to stop funding animal tests, and instead, start funding and supporting organizations that are working to prevent animal testing, like PETA.  Animal testing should be banned because it violates animals' rights, it causes pain and suffering to the experimental animals, and other means of testing product toxicity are available, like using technology.

Thank you, everyone, for signing this important petition, and we hope we can bring change to this issue. We need to stop harming the harmless.
