Feature Women on U.S. Currency

Feature Women on U.S. Currency
The Issue
The faces on all U.S. banknotes have remained the same since 1929, when a special treasury committee selected them due to their "permanent familiarity in the minds of the public." However out of all of those figuires on the banknotes, they are all men. There has only ever been one woman featured on a piece of paper American money. Many other countires such as the United Kingdom and Australia feature woman on their banknotes and if the U.S. wants to remain as a coutnry that the rest of the world looks to, it is time for a women to be permantely featured on an American banknote.
I would like the point out why I believe it is important for women to be on U.S. currency.
1. There are many women who are completely qualified to be featured on U.S. currency.
The Treasury Department came up with rules for a person to be featured on a bank note stating the person has to be dead, and have a permanent familiarity in the minds of the public. It also helps to be a famous American. These pictures on US currency have not changed since 1929.
2. In many other countries, there are women feature on currency.
England has Queen Elizabeth II featured on currency and last year stated that novelist Jane Austen is to appear on the new £10 note. From 2016, she will replace the eco-theorist Charles Darwin. In Australia, they currently have six women on bank notes (including two suffragettes and a poet). Here, we've never risked more than one at at a time.
3. The topic has been brought to Washington D.C.
President Obama recently told a story about, "A young girl wrote to ask me why aren't there any women on our currency, and then she gave me like a long list of possible women to put on our dollar bills and quarters and stuff — which I thought was a pretty good idea," he said.
It is time for to change who is featured on American banknotes. Please sign and join me in the campaign to get women on U.S. currency.
