- Those of us at N.J.F.J.D would like you to read the following. The GOVT has backed the creation of the Security Industry Authority, (S.I.A), which has, over the past few years, raised the status and credibility of the Security Industry. Although many changes have taken place, we feel that while protecting the public through the implementation of door supervisor licences and police checks and training etc, the issue of Door Supervisors safety has been neglected. A one man door involves a Door Supervisor working on their own without backup, at a venue which may have anything from 20-200 plus people in at any given time. This practice is contrary to all guidance and legislation regarding lone-workers. The numbers of DS required by a venue must be based on a full "Work-place Related Violence Risk Assessment .During the course of their working hours, that one Door Supervisor, will be expected to carry out any number of duties, such as checking to verify customers age at entry, checking suitability of incoming patrons, ensuring people have paid an entry fee, crowd control Monitoring the inside (including toilets), beer gardens and the surroundings of the venue Ensuring that alcohol does not leave the premises and Ejection of patrons Door Supervisors working alone is not only dangerous for the person doing it, but also to the venues staff and customers, as while attempting to eject a customer or break up a multi person fight, also while doing many of these duties the entry is not being covered, this allows the entry of unwanted, underage, intoxicated, violent people in to the venue, the Door Supervisor has no one to watch their back, or to aid in the safe removal of violent customers, so this practise must be outlawed urgently.
