Dear animal lover,
Across the UK right now, millions of sensitive, intelligent hens like Annie are trapped in cruel cages.
Even though 88% of the British public believe that using cages in farming is cruel to animals, for years the UK Governments have all dragged their heels and failed to act.
But now there is hope. The Scottish Government has announced it is consulting on phasing out cages for hens.
If the phase-out happens? A million hens a year in Scotland would be freed from their metal prisons, and a powerful message would be sent to Westminster and the Welsh and Northern Irish Governments: it is time to end this cruelty across the UK for good.
Wherever you live, you can act now.
This is an important moment for action: every supportive response submitted to the consultation makes it more likely that cages in Scotland are ended as soon as possible.
The consultation is open to all, you do not need to live in Scotland to take this action.
This action will take a little longer than actions we normally share with you (I timed myself, and it took just over 10 minutes to complete). To make it super simple, we've created an action page that guides you through step-by-step.
So, make yourself a cup of tea (if that's your thing), put on our soothing clucks and chirps soundtrack (optional!) and settle down to take this highly impactful action for hens.
Thank you so much for taking action for hens today. This consultation is a sign that times are changing. It's because of animal lovers like you, relentlessly pushing for change, that I know we can build a kinder world for animals.
For the animals,
Cordelia Britton, Head of Programs at The Humane League UK
