Support the flood victims and flood defences in the UK by bypassing some of the aid going abroad.
The Issue
There are many people living in the UK who have become massive flood victims for no fault of their own. It is also not the fault of the government in most cases. But can I mirror the words I have heard this week of diverting selected aid payments abroad on the basis that we should support our own nation when in trouble before supporting other countries. Obviously support to other countries worldwide is important and I understand the predicament the government finds itself in and I believe it would not matter whether it were Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems or whomever were in power, but we have to support the flood victims who have lost everything. A small number of unfortunate UK citizens are currently in places where they cannot insure their land and have no other options left to themselves. Let us use an example of continuing to give to charity on a monthly direct debit, when actually your own family is struggling to support themselves. Mr Cameron there is no time to wait around till it becomes too late for some, support your unfortunate taxpayers now and provide significant support to at least those in the worst cases. I know its very easy in essence to say this from a petition website, but if I were in power this would be my priority right now and charitable givings abroad would be taking a second place. This should not stop at supporting those whose lives have been destroyed by the weather, but to throughout the summer invest in very aggressive flood defence schemes to help to minimise future costs. Although a large layout in payment it may seem, it will be worth it in the end. This will not be a one-off occurence.
