Scrap the Tampon Tax

Scrap the Tampon Tax

The Issue

Project Code Red are calling for the Government to ditch a five per cent tax on sanitary products for women!

Periods have been taxed since 1973. Menstrual hygiene products are defined as non-essential goods and, as a result, they’re exposed to unfair and unnecessary tax, payable by the consumer. After a lot of campaigning, that same ‘period tax’ was dropped to five per cent in 2001, let's see if we can make further change by scrapping the tax completely!

We need your help and action to redefine these items as essential, thereby eradicating the subsequent “luxury” tax levied on them.

Currently tampons and sanitary pads are deemed a "non-essential luxury" item by the Treasury and so they are taxed at five percent accordingly. This is an outdated and outrageous tax on women.

Who Are We?
