Member of Congress Hayes:

I'd like to call your attention to a petition signed by over 14,000 people calling for a ban on imports of Russian uranium. The U.S. pressures European countries to stop Russian fossil fuel, but at the same time freely imports millions of dollars of Russian uranium.
The petition was drawn up by Promoting Enduring Peace. It's here:   https://change.org/p/the-u-s-should-ban-the-import-of-russian-uranium

Its purposes were to 1) support Ukraine and 2) to force a rapid phase-out of nuclear power because of multiple problems such as the lack of a plan for storage of nuclear waste and the possibility that in a war these plants might be attacked or used by military forces as hiding places (as they are now being used in Ukraine).

Would you be willing to sponsor a bill to outlaw imports of Russian uranium to achieve those purposes?

New bill submitted to ban low-enriched uranium for Russia.

It's from Sen. Barrasso of Wyoming.  His purpose to encourage U.S. mining of uranium, which is certainly NOT our purpose. The bill would specifically allow imports from Russia if a nuclear power plants said it needed it! Still we might learn something from his efforts.

International Atomic Energy Agency Head Warns

"It is very, very important that we agree on the fundamental principle that a nuclear power plant should not be attacked under any circumstances and it also shouldn't be used to attack others," he said. "A nuclear accident with radiological consequences will spare no one."

"On Wednesday, he said that the situation was not improving and that it was "obvious that military activity is increasing" in the region."
