The Truth Will Never Be Censored: Uphold Justice & Human Rights
The Issue
As someone who deeply values rights, freedom, and justice, I am moved to address an issue that is personal not only to me but to all of us who believe in these principles. On Tuesday October 17th, the Ontario legislature issued a condemnation of the Palestinian people and their supporters whose intention and focus was, and is directed to justice and human rights. This action has raised concerns about a potential bias against a specific group of people, also a censure of their voice without observing facts, proofs and evidences.
It is important for us as Ontarians to promote fairness, equality, and respect for all individuals regardless of their background, weaknesses or political affiliations. The condemnation issued by our legislature seems contrary to these values that we hold dear, furthermore if fueled and continued would pave a hazardous path in the wrong direction.
Moreover, this incident may contribute towards Islamophobia within our province. According to Statistics Canada (2018), hate crimes against Muslims increased by 151% in Ontario from 2016-2017. This alarming rise underscores the urgent need for actions that foster understanding rather than division.
We are therefore calling on the Ontario legislature not just to amend its stance on this issue but to also take concrete steps towards upholding rights and justice and eradicating any Islamophobia which may be present in our province for the well-being and safety of everyone.
We urge you as concerned citizens who value justice and human rights, many who have come to Canada looking for a better life, and who have indeed made this country a better place by way of yourselves and family - to sign this petition today! Let's work together in establishing justice and rights for all, free of oppression.
