The Issue

The Tower District community is in dire need of a satellite branch of the Fresno County Public Library. This area is home to a diverse population, including students, families, and seniors who rely on access to books, resources, and technology.

According to a community survey from 2005, done by the Fresno County Public Library system, a need for a library in the Tower District was mentioned as a priority. Members of the Tower District area do not currently have easy access to a library branch, with the Central Library being the current closest library.  As a result many individuals are unable to take advantage of the educational and cultural opportunities that come with having a local library.

Furthermore, studies have shown that communities with access to libraries experience higher rates of literacy and academic achievement. Libraries also provide valuable resources for job seekers and entrepreneurs looking for information on starting or growing their businesses.

By establishing a satellite branch in the Tower District community, we can ensure that all residents have equal access to these important resources. The Fresno County Public Library system has already successfully established satellite branches in other underserved areas throughout the county.

We urge our local government officials and representatives from the Fresno County Public Library system to prioritize this issue and work towards establishing a satellite branch in our community as soon as possible.
