URGENT!Say NO to Rabbit Slaughter and Whole Foods Market
The Issue
The Toronto Humane Society's mission is "to promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty and suffering."
Whole Foods Markets introduced the sale of rabbit meat in their stores in 2014. They are promoting growth of an otherwise small demand for rabbit meat and for the industrialization of rabbit farming and slaughter on a mass scale.
By partnering in a January 12, 2015 fundraising event, with Whole Foods Market (Yorkville), The Toronto Humane Society is acting in contravention of their own mandate. The same breed of rabbits being slaughtered and sold in the meat cases of select Whole Foods Markets are available for adoption at The Toronto Humane Society. Why love one and slaughter the other?
Rabbits are the third most popular companion animal in North America. They deserve to be protected by The Toronto Humane Society not to suffer and be slaughtered for its gain.
