The Third Option - Special Rate Variation
The issue
We, the residents of Shoalhaven, are deeply concerned about the financial management of our local council.
At a Council Meeting scheduled for Jan 29, Councillors are faced with two options. Option 1 is for a 32% rate rise in 2024, or Option 2, a 44% rate rise over three years.
We believe that it is crucial to offer Councillors The Third Option.
We urge Council to table the third option at the Meeting on Jan 29; 'Council to commision an independent review of potential asset sales, alternative revenue streams and significant reductions in expenditure for discretionary non-core activities.'
This will ensure a balanced budget that prioritises core activities and keeps the growth in Rates revenue in line with the Consumer Price Index, as an alternative to the Special Rate Variation proposed by the Management of Council
Let's work together for a financially responsible Shoalhaven City Council that serves its community well.
