In a dramatic announcement concerning the on-going prohibition against any form of Jewish prayer, the Chief of Police Roni Alsheich departed from the traditional police line of referring to the Temple Mount as a "powder-keg". Alsheich Stated: "This is a sensitive matter in a sensitive place, however, it is a matter for the Government to decide. If the Israeli Government should want Jewish Prayer on the Temple Mount, the police will work to protect Jewish worshipers. The police work in accordance with the law and according to Governmental decisions." The Police Chief was referencing “Regulation 761” passed by the security cabinet in 1967, which states "A Jew wishing to pray at the Temple Mount should be re-directed to the Western Wall." Resolution 761 has tied police hands on the matter for the past 50 years. The Movement for Temple Renewal calls upon the entire Jewish public and our supporters worldwide to join our call for the Government of Israel to rescind the "status quo" and allow Jewish prayer on the Mount.
