On April 16 2015, The Sun published a column written by Katie Hopkins entitled: "Rescue boats? I’d use gunships to stop migrants". This article clearly violates the Independent Press Standards Organisation's code of ethics (Clause 12 Discrimination) by inciting racial hatred. The article labels migrants as “a plague of feral humans” and lists physically violent and life threatening suggested behaviour toward these people. The language, knowingly or unknowingly, echoes that used during times of genocide (eg. WW2, Rwanda). The level of incitement is extreme and the Editors of The Sun are actively supporting and inciting racial hatred and violence in printing this article written by an author without political or academic agenda, simply a dangerous wish to be provocative. The public and the IPSO must not forgive this as harmless celebrity 'role play' and must recognise that this is a blatant dangerous and unacceptable act by the publication. Katie Hopkins should be removed as columnist and no longer give a public and paid platform to disseminate her discriminatory views.
