The North Bergen school district is burning their students and staff out daily. Longer school days are not manageable or productive for their students. The North Bergen online school schedule is from 7:40-3:07, roughly 7 hours and 30 minutes that students and staff members are tied down to a screen.  Surrounding school districts such as Union City, West New York, Hudson County Schools of Technology, etc. all have shorter school schedules ranging from 8:00am-1:30pm. With shorter school days in an uncontrolled environment, students are more likely to concentrate in their classes and be more productive. Longer traditional school days are unmanageable at home. The board should focus on students mastering concepts rather than the number of hours spent on them. Shorter, and more targetable lessons are much more efficient when learning at home. Students and staff members are becoming more stressed and tired due to staring at their screens for 7 hours. By signing this petition we hope that the North Bergen Board of Education will reconsider their virtual learning plan and take into consideration their staffs and students' mental health during these hard times.
