To Regulate Veterinary Fees

The Issue

Pets are an extension of the family. When they become sick or injured, pet owners are confronted with two very difficult choices; to pay exorbitant veterinary fees or euthanize the animal. Too often the choice is made from the wallet not the heart and savable animals are destroyed. Families are left grief stricken and guilt ridden, because there is no other choice in the matter. Regulating veterinary costs would make it financially feasible for people to own pets and provide them with needed and required veterinary care. Additionally, animals housed in overcrowded shelters would more likely be rescued / adopted by people whose reason for not owning pets is fear that the cost of veterinarian care would become a major financial burden.

We understand veterinarians must be paid for their services. However, they chose veterinary medicine out a compassion toward sick and injured animals and an enthusiasm to help them become healthy not to get rich while pet owners max out credit cards, go into bankruptcy or choose euthanizing savable pets.

We demand that the state of New Jersey fully regulate all costs associated with every aspect of animal healthcare provided or offered by veterinarian practices in the state.
