The Democratic Delta Program Community Chooses Synchronous Remote Learning for Fall 2020
The Issue
The Delta Program is "a democratic school of choice" founded on the principle that the Delta community of teachers, students and parents make the decisions about issues that concern the school. Delta is not an exercise in democracy, it is democracy.

Our children are registered students at The Delta Program. We do not choose to endanger our teachers, staff and their families by sending them back to the classroom this fall. We want our teachers to prepare and teach; to connect with our children, not spend the majority of their days policing student social distance and mask compliance and wiping down classrooms. Although our teachers are willing to risk their health in the classroom, we cannot in good conscience require them to do so during a global pandemic.
We also choose that our teachers teach the classes they’ve prepared, and our children excitedly await. We reject the Virtual Academy as a replacement for this experience.
****Edited to include: This does not mean the Virtual Academy doesn't serve an important role in our district. It has for the last ten years. While we reject the Virtual Academy as a replacement for the Delta experience, we do not mean that it should not still exist as an independent program. It should. The intent of this petition to protect our teachers; not knowingly expose them to the dangers of contacting Coronavirus. Thus, the VA fits well within the spirit of this Petition.****
Therefore, we, the undersigned parents, students, administrators and staff choose synchronous remote learning for the Delta Program middle and high schools, with Delta teachers for the fall of 2020. This does not affect the independent Virtual Academy. We intend to re-evaluate the situation for the spring.
