THE PLEDGE

Every girl has the right to be included, to be safe, and to be happy; regardless of background, origin story, or current circumstances.

I will show up wherever I am and stand up to do whatever I can to create a world where every girl, everywhere has a fair shot at hitting her goals and achieving her dreams.

BACKGROUND

I am a simple white guy with all the advantages someone could ask for, even though I never did. More importantly, I am a girl dad (3) and girl grandfather (5.5) and have seen what the world can and, too often, does to young women, especially to those from marginalized immigrant communities. Girls are overlooked, sidelined, bullied, and assaulted.

I simply cannot park my privilege and not do what I can to help change that.

VISION

Three short years ago I created #SheBelongs, the long overdue addition to Refugee Soccer, which I founded in 2016 to bridge diverse communities through soccer. #SheBelongs has fast become an answer to how we realize my vision of a world where every girl, everywhere has a fair shot at hitting her goals and achieving her dreams.

ACTION

I have now led two brilliant and brave teams of young women, half refugee and half non-refugee, on life-changing trips to celebrate the beautiful game. The inaugural trip to Japan and New Zealand in 2023, and the Global HOPE Cup to Spain in June earlier this year. The incredible growth experienced by every member of the team is something to share and catalyze widely. So, we made a documentary film that we are screening to a growing group of audiences nationally-see list of screenings here.
