Munir Farooqi is a victim of a serious miscarriage of justice. An innocent man arrested in Nov 2009. He was set up by Greater Manchester Police and thrown behind bars for life due to two undercover police officers who faked their conversions to Islam, infiltrated the Muslim community in Manchester for a whole year, abused Munir's hospitality & genuine concern for them in order to invent a fake terror gang!  

Munir Farooqi ran Islamic information stalls in Manchester to build bridges between communities. Non Muslims and Muslims alike benefited from these stalls. Munir was warned to stop these 'dawah stalls' by the police and council, despite the stalls being totally legal and no license required but failed in their attempt to take Munir off the streets. Therefore, Greater Manchester Police in collaboration with the Counter Terrorism Unit decided to send TWO undercover police officers pretending to take an interest in Islam through the dawah stall, who eventually faked their conversions to Islam.   

These two UCO's secretly recorded Munir, and the Muslim community at large for a whole year  They spent many hours in Munir's family home abusing a whole year of their hospitality, and sincere concern & care for who they believed to be 'new Muslims who had no family support.' After taking Munir's words out of context and presenting Munir as a terrorist recruiter at trial in September 2011, the Head of the North West counter terrorism unit, Tony Porter, admitted there was no solid PROOF of this allegation, and confessed to BBC: "...we did not recover any blueprint, attack plan or end game for these men..."

In other words Munir’s conviction in Sept 2011 depended solely on the evidence of the undercover police. Harris Farooqi, Munir’s son was also on trial, branded by the prosecution as Munir’s ‘right hand man’ but he was found Not Guilty! Harris states that the undercover cops had been engaged in a systematic attempt to build a fabricated case against them.     

Munir is not the first victim of miscarriage of justice nor will he be the last. He continues to maintain his innocence and appeals his conviction. We have the prime examples such as the Guildford Four, and the Birmingham Six where through continuous campaigning they were eventually proven innocent.

Demand the immediate release of Munir Farooqi! 

Call for the prison authorities to treat him humanely and allow his right to independent medical assessments due to his care being neglected as a diabetic patient!
