22 March, 2018 NEW LAND POLICY IN SOUTH AFRICA – EXPROPRIATION OF LAND WITHOUT COMPENSATION – WHICH IS IN VIOLATION OF ARTICLE 17 OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS Dear supporter of this petition Thank you for your unwavering support to stop farm murders in South Africa. Our petition to the UN now stands at 146,607 supporters. Our South African government has accepted a new land policy recently that would allow for land expropriation without compensation. This is in direct violation of International law, in particular, Article 17 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights passed by the United Nations, which has been signed by South Africa, as well. Article 17 reads: “(1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.” See http://www.un.org/en/udhrbook/pdf/udhr_booklet_en_web.pdf Lauren Southern, a Canadian freelance journalist, who visited South Africa, made a documentary entitled “Farmlands” in which she exposes the violence and murder that is being perpetrated against mainly white Afrikaans- speaking commercial farmers; they are also the target of the latest government policy of expropriation of land (property) without compensation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr-DWa6P2vM A South African Civil Rights organization, Afriforum, has started a petition to international investors and governments, to put pressure on the South African government to abolish its plan to expropriate property without compensation. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=71&v=pXy79zHqXrg I support their petition and would encourage the 146,607 supporters of this petition to also support the petition of Afriforum. The Afriforum petition reads as follows: “Petition to international investors and governments AfriForum will circulate a petition to international investors and governments in which these will be requested to pressurize the South African government into abolishing its plan to expropriate property without compensation. This follows the motion that was recently adopted in Parliament in terms of which expropriation of land without compensation was approved in principle. A committee was also established that must report back to Parliament in August 2018 on how Article 25 of the Constitution – the right to own private property – must be amended to give effect to the motion. If necessary, AfriForum will fight the motion in the council halls of the United Nations. The more people sign the petition, the more weight it carries. Add your name to the petition and ask your friends and family to do so too. If you sign the petition, AfriForum will keep you updated on developments in this regard, including public hearings and other ways in which you can help to fight this motion.” Please go to the following link and sign their petition to stop the expropriation of land without compensation in South Africa: https://www.afriforum.co.za/expropriation/ Please note, I have also started a fundraising page at: https://www.patreon.com/louisgreen Donations may be as little as $1 and there is no maximum on your donation.
