10 November 2017 Understand why the Zuma regime voted No to an important United Nations General Assembly resolution that reiterates the need for human rights defenders to be protected. Latest total of supporters who signed this petition: 130,992 WHY IN THIS WORLD WOULD SOUTH AFRICA, WITH ITS SPLENDID RECORD OF DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS AND A CONSTITUTION THAT IS HUMAN RIGHTS-BASED VOTE AGAINST SUCH AN IMPORTANT RESOLUTION AT THE UN?? Dear Supporters of the PETITION TO STOP FARM MURDERS (AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES) IN SOUTH AFRICA Thank you for your most loyal support. Many Western nations were perplexed when SOUTH AFRICA, WITH ITS SPLENDID RECORD OF DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS AND A CONSTITUTION THAT IS HUMAN RIGHTS-BASED, VOTED AGAINST SUCH AN IMPORTANT RESOLUTION AT THE UN. Even our own SOUTH AFRICAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION was dumbfounded when on “25 November 2015, in the 3rd Committee of the UN General Assembly, South Africa voted against this UN General Assembly Resolution on human rights defenders. https://www.sahrc.org.za/index.php/sahrc-media/news-2/item/358-sahrc-against-s-africa-s-no-vote-at-the-un-in-rights-defenders-resolution-seeks-answers-from-govt South Africa was one of 14 states (ALL with bad human rights records) that chose to vote No on the resolution. The other states include: China – Yes. This one we understand would vote against the resolution because it has one of the worse records of human rights abuses in the history of humankind: http://freebeacon.com/national-security/chinas-human-rights-violations-grow-increasingly-severe/ Russia – Yes. This one too. We know why they voted against the resolution; it was to be expected. Read for yourself the atrocious human rights abuses in Crimea: https://www.rferl.org/a/crimea-un-human-rights-violations-ukraine/28755655.html Syria – Of course. With the human rights abuses happening there during the civil war and with the support of Russia, we are not surprised. Some of the worse acts of human rights violations have taken place here, backed by the Russian regime Read the shocking world report on Syria: https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2016/country-chapters/syria Burundi – Yes. Another failed African state with major human rights abuses. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/burundi-icc-investigation-state-crimes-1.4394709 ‘International Criminal Court judges have authorized an investigation into allegations of state-sponsored crimes in Burundi including murder, rape and torture, announcing the decision Thursday shortly after the East African nation became the first to formally quit the court.’ Kenya – also sliding towards anarchy because of corrupt leaders; https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/08/27/kenya-post-election-killings-abuse “(Nairobi) – Kenya’s presidential election on August 8, 2017 was marred by serious human rights violations, including unlawful killings and beatings by police during protests and house-to-house operations in western Kenya, Human Rights Watch said today. At least 12 people were killed and over 100 badly injured. Kenyan authorities should urgently investigate the crimes, and ensure that officers found to have used excessive force are held to account. “The brutal crackdown on protesters and residents in the western counties, part of a pattern of violence and repression in opposition strongholds, undermined the national elections,” said Otsieno Namwaya, Africa researcher at Human Rights Watch. “People have a right to protest peacefully, and Kenyan authorities should urgently put a stop to police abuse and hold those responsible to account.” ‘ Myanmar – needs special mention. The Rohingya Muslim People are being murdered – a real genocide there. Google this. You will be shocked with all the evidence. http://edition.cnn.com/2017/10/23/opinions/myanmar-rohingya-genocide/index.html Article II of United Nation's 1948 Genocide Convention describes genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group." (CNN) “The Rohingya crisis in Myanmar is now widely described as ethnic cleansing. But the situation has been evolving. And now, it seems, we can no longer avoid the conclusion we have all been dreading. This is a genocide. And we, in the international community, must recognize it as such.” Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan and Sudan are also severe human rights abusers. Zimbabwe – was to be expected, with the dictator Robert Mugabe still in charge of a bankrupt African state: https://www.hrw.org/africa/zimbabwe North Korea – I have kept Rocket Man for last because this suicidal, megalomaniacal midget will not listen to anybody. Closer home, in South Africa, he reminds me of Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Front (EFF) Read about the atrocious records of human rights abuses in North Korea (there are thousands of reports) – this will shock you, without a doubt. https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2017/country-chapters/north-korea https://www.hrw.org/asia/north-korea https://www.amnesty.org/en/countries/asia-and-the-pacific/north-korea/ There were 117 states voting in favour and 40 abstentions. Now why in the world would a country, with an icon as our first democratic President of a free South Africa, the beloved Nelson Mandela, vote in support of a bunch of dictators and despots. The reasons are varied, but let me list a few: 1. Our own President Jacob Zuma is a despot himself and if it wasn’t for our RSA Constitution with entrenched articles, Zuma would have extended his rule like all the other African despots that we know; 2. Most of these countries listed with these poor human rights records have funded the ANC WITH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to win South African elections, and I will not be a bit surprised if they will be funded again by them for the 2019 national elections: “ The following donations were reported in the media: • King Fahd of Suadi Arabia (1990): 50 million Dollars: Business Day reported that the donation was made “at Mandela’s request”; • Taiwanese Government (July 1993): 6 million Pounds Sterling; • Taiwanese Government (June 1994): 10 million US Dollars: According to the Washington Post, the donation was made “to help the African National Congress repay a 20 million Dollar campaign debt”. The paper wrote that among those ANC officials involved in soliciting the donation were Thomas Nkobi (the ANC’s treasurer-general) and Thabo Mbeki. At the time, ANC secretary-general Cyril Ramaphosa denied any knowledge of the deal to the Mail & Guardian. A Taiwanese official said the payment helped delay South Africa’s recognition of China by at least two years; • General Sani Abacha of Nigeria (1994): 2.6 million Pounds Sterling: writing for the Guardian, David Beresford claimed that the donation was made in cash. Beresford also wrote, “The ANC is known to have received substantial cash donations from the Moroccan government, which could explain the South African government’s recent reluctance to honour promises to recognise the Polisario Front’s Saharawi Republic”; • General Sani Abacha of Nigeria (1995): 50 million US Dollars: According to the Lagos newspaper The News, the donation was made to “prepare the ground for an eventual rapport with a Mandela-led government”. The money was allegedly withdrawn from the security vote – “that nebulous fund that has become the veritable channel for both national and state leaders to misappropriate monies, or even embezzle them outright”. • King Fahd of Saudi Arabia (1999): 10 million US Dollars; • Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of Libya (1999): Unknown: The Sunday Telegraph wrote, “South African Foreign Ministry officials last week confirmed that Col Gaddafi has given Mr Mandela a significant donation – several million pounds – to be used in the ANC’s election campaign”. The story later claimed, “Mr Mandela is also believed to have received party funding from Beijing during a visit in which he notably failed to comment on China’s human rights record”; • Sheik Zaid bin Sultan al-Nahayan of United Arab Emirates (1999): 10 million US Dollars; • President Mahathir Mohammed of Malaysia (Unknown): 50 million US Dollars; and • General Mohammed Suharto of Indonesia (Unknown): 60 million US Dollars: Business Day described the donations from Al-Nahayan, President Mohammed and King Fahd as follows: “President Mandela disclosed last night that Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd had donated 10 million US Dollars to the ANC. Another 10 million US Dollars was received from Shaikh Zaid bin Sultan al-Nahayan of the UAE… Al-Nahayan gave the money ‘on the spot’, he said… The 10 million donated by Fahd was in addition to 50 million US Dollars he donated to the ANC in 1990, Mandela said… He had asked Malaysian prime minister Mahatir Mohammed for 10 million US Dollars, but he gave 50 million”. That’s a total of around 260 million US Dollars. If one took a very conservative ratio, of one Dollar for every four Rands, that works out to just over a billion Rand – and that’s just the donations outlined above – which found their way into the public domain. Seen in that light, quite how the ruling party has managed to find itself in the state of financial distress it is currently in really boggles the mind. There are some notorious people in that collection of names. King Fahd, Sani Abacha and Mohammed Suharto all have dubious human rights track records. Colonel Gaddafi is hardly a shining example of democratic leadership. Indeed, the ruling party’s approach to fundraising is yet further evidence of the ANC’s drift away from a commitment to promoting human rights – not only has the ANC solicited money from people such as Mohammed Suharto, but often it has actually celebrated them.” The South African vote on 25 November 2015, in the 3rd Committee of the UN General Assembly, AGAINST the UN General Assembly Resolution on human rights defenders, WAS ‘SOLD’ BY PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA AND THE ANC FOR FINANCIAL REWARDS and that is THE TRUE REASON why South Africa voted AGAINST THE RESOLUTION TO DEFEND HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS, despite its good record in fighting the APARTHEID REGIME and bringing about democratic change in South Africa. Finally, a desperate farmer in the Free state, South Africa, has taken extreme measures to protect his family.
