COMPULSORY STERILISATION FOR PETS

COMPULSORY STERILISATION FOR PETS
The Issue
More pets, including newborn pups and kittens, some with eyes barely open, are being abandoned and dumped everyday without a thought or care for their safety! Shelters and rescuers are overcome with the rescues of these animals and shelters are overflowing with these rescues and struggling for funds. Feeders are using more and more of their personal income to feed these strays!
We call for the Sabah State Government, to make it compulsory for all pet owners to neuter their pets in an effort to curb abandonment and head towards a STRAY FREE SABAH!
By making neutering of pets compulsory it will not only discourage abandonment, but amongst others, will stop illegal breeding and this in turn will stop illegal breeders from selling puppies and kittens etc at the local tamus (Sunday market). The government should also offer an attractive package for neutering so it is affordable for pet owners
Animal NGOs can help by conducting door to door checks and give offenders a first warning and on the follow up check, an on the spot fine if the pet still has not been neutered! All fines will be handed over to the Dept of Veterinary Services It will be a win-win situation for both the State of Sabah and the people of Sabah and a boon for tourism at the same time!
