Foster carers put themselves at risk every day from allegations and accusations made by children they care for or the birth family of the child.

We want a complete and rapid overhaul of the allegations procedure.

The current investigation system is shambolic, long and drawn out and shrouded in secrecy which leads to month of stress and anxiety for the carers. This experience often leads to carers leaving the profession to avoid having to go through it all again.  We are losing good carers with many years of experience because of this. New carers are also put off persuing the role because of the threat of allegations and they way these are currently dealt with.

Foster carers want proper transparency when allegations are made.  We want support when we are going through this painful experience. We want to be presumed innocent unless proven guilty. We want to be treated as the professionals that we are and we want honesty and transparency from all agencies involved in the procedure.

We understand that allegations have to be taken seriously because some of them will turn out to have substance but we also want to be treated with courtesy and professionalism because we all know that the vast majority of allegations will be unsubstantiated and Foster Carers do not deserve to have their lives wrecked on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations.
