Ban the cruel Grand National Horse Race

The annual event held at the Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool in the U.K. regularly results in serious injuries and deaths for the horses involved. In just the first two days of this year’s Grand National, four horses have sustained fatal injuries and had to be put down.

Over 60 percent of horses bred by the racing industry are considered unfit for racing and sent to slaughter or otherwise discarded. The ones who do make it to the races are whipped, beaten, drugged and forced to race to exhaustion. Many sustain severe injuries to their legs, often from having been forced to train too early, and others suffer from cardiac or respiratory issues. Countless racing horses are killed each year when they sustain injuries or their performance wanes.

Sign this petition urging the government to take horse welfare seriously by banning the Grand National and other horse races around the country.
