High Time For Styx started this petition to The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

For over 20 years Styx has been eligible for induction into the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame.  We as fans believe the recognition for their achievements and influences in rock music is long overdue.

In September 1972, the music world was introduced to a rock band with a unique sound.  A rock band known as Styx.  Some of Styx’ best known songs are: Lady, Come Sail Away, Babe, The Best of Times, Too Much Time on My Hands, Renegade, Blue Collar Man and Mr. Roboto.  Styx boasts three strong songwriters all with different musical styles.  Their influences on each other created a unique blend of power chords, melodic rock, pop rock with progressive elements and theatrical style.  Styx possesses distinct and unmistakable vocal harmonies.  Styx is considered one of the architects of the power ballad.  By the 1980’s their influence and success with the power ballad caused it to become a frequently used style by many other artists and groups in rock music.

Styx became known for being a stellar live act and a dominant force in arena rock from the 70’s to the early 80’s.  Boasting three strong lead singers as well as their precision musicianship, Styx was able to recreate the sound of their studio recordings in live performances without additional support of musicians, vocalists or technology.  Styx was also a huge commercial success.  Most notably, Styx was the first musical act to be certified by the RIAA as achieving four consecutive multi-platinum albums. Styx also achieved 35 songs on the Billboard music charts.  Which includes 9 songs on Billboard’s Top 10 as well as 21 songs in the Top 40.  It’s important to note that Styx achieved top ten hits in three different decades. Which is a testament to the band’s longevity and continued interest among rock music listeners. Additionally, Styx was awarded a People’s Choice Award for the song Babe as well as being voted the most popular band in a U.S. Gallop Poll.

Styx’ influence and achievements in rock music can also be seen by their place in pop culture. With the songs Mr. Roboto and Come Sail Away being featured in movies, TV shows and TV commercials.  Which included commercials for Volkswagen, TV shows South Park, Freaks and Geeks, That 70’s Show, Mr. Robot and the movies Big Daddy and The Perfect Man as well as countless soundtracks.  As an American Rock Band, Styx embodied the American Spirit.  The lyrics in their songs dealt with angst, adversity and disillusionment but through hope and determination we will overcome the odds.

We the undersigned respectfully request that The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame place Styx on the ballot for consideration on induction.
