Le problème

Dear Sirs and Madam,

We are writing to you as Ontarians in a time of desperation. Our province is on the cusp of the worst humanitarian crisis in history. Sadly, our provincial government has chosen to ignore the plentiful, studied, and expert advice of scientists, medical doctors, epidemiologists and statisticians. Ontario will soon become a province known internationally as the place in Canada where citizens are left to die without full medical treatment because the provincial government did not properly plan or provide, nor enact regulations to ensure our hardworking medical care communities would be able to continue their excellent work in “doing no harm” as they swore to do upon their licensing.

Ontario's reputation in the international business community is already declining, with Japan banning travelers not from all of Canada, but specifically from Ontario alone. American media outlets continue to publish stories highlighting the catastrophes of Ontario's pandemic response. Ontario is in an emergency situation and Ontario's government refuses to make the changes necessary for its people. Ontarians are angry, afraid and need help.

Current projections show 18,000 infections per day are on the horizon. This will leave a devastating path of death and / or permanent physical and mental health issues for Ontarians of all ages and professions. We therefore beg your intervention, in facilitating one or more of the following measures to help the citizens of Ontario avoid disastrous sickness and death from Covid-19:

a) Remove Doug Ford as Premier of Ontario via any processes available and appoint an interim Premier until a provincial election may be held as soon as possible in 2022 that more accurately reflects the wishes of Ontario voters;

b) Enact the Federal Emergencies Act to remove decisions from the provincial government concerning pandemic management, under Section 3 (a) which confirms:

For the purposes of this Act, a national emergency is an urgent and critical situation of a temporary nature that

(a) seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it, ”

c) Under the Emergencies Act, request the assistance of medical personnel from other provinces with low rates of Covid-19 infection, who are qualified to assist with Covid-19 management in a hospital setting in Ontario's hospitals, including the cost of their transportation, supplemental housing, living costs and remuneration for their services.

d) Under the Emergencies Act, provide for paid sick days for Ontario workers not covered under the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) plan.

e) Under the Emergencies Act, provide for increased immunization for all Ontarians aged 18+ via Red Cross assistance at hotspot workplaces and postal codes.

f) Under the Emergencies Act, provide for wider testing at semi-permanent locations not considered daily “pop-up” testing spots.

g) Under the Emergencies Act, provide for employers to retain positions and income of any parents who need to take leave from their job duties in order to oversee their children at home doing virtual schooling.

Please understand you are Ontario's last hope. The future of Ontarians is beyond grim without one or all of the above forms of compassionate assistance. We trust you will empathize with the gravity of Ontario's imminent crisis and do what you can to save human life.

In gratitude,

The undersigned petitioners
