Airports are ideal locations for solar farms. They are large unshaded areas already connected to the electrical grid and easily accessible for installation and maintenance. I have no doubt future generations will view the fact that they are not used to collect the renewable energy we as a society urgently need to prioritize in the same light that we now view early disposal of nuclear waste into oceans.

The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) has many banks of nearly flat-roofed hangars. The owners of at least two of those hangar banks have wanted to install solar panels there for years. If action had been taken when it was first brought to their attention the airport could have already generated an enormous amount of renewable energy. However the airport denied permission because they would have to upgrade their electrical infrastructure.

Please join in urging The Region of Waterloo International Airport to invest in the future of the earth. Transitioning to renewable energy on both a global and individual scale is essential and urgent. Upgrading your electrical infrastructure and allowing solar panels on hangar roofs is a small sacrifice to make for a global emergency of this magnitude. You have the opportunity to pioneer a crucial new use for airports in the future of humanity. We hope you take that opportunity - and take it soon.
