Restructure the Belmont Dining Hall

The Issue

It has come to my attention that over the past several years, the Belmont University Dining hall food has decreased in quality severely. I now often experience a physical repulsion when I enter, and feel as though the food lacks flavor, aesthetic appeal, but most importantly NUTRITIONAL VALUE

For many students, the Belmont Dining Hall is their only dining option, and, as it stands, the current state of the dining hall is unacceptable. I hope to attain at least 1000 signatures on this petition so I can bring it to the president's office to incentivize a restructuring of our dining hall based off of the most highly rated college halls across the country. Our contract with Sodexo as a food supplier is coming to and end soon, which means that it is time to project the voice of the student body so our health needs are met. If Belmont has the ability to increase the quality of the food for prospective students on preview days then they have the means to increase the quality of foods for their currently enrolled students.

IF YOU HAVE A STORY ABOUT THE BELMONT CAFETERIA, POST IT IN THE COMMENTS!!!

The delinquency of the cafeteria contains but is in no way limited to:

  • Burned food (including but not limited to pizza, cookies, burgers, fries, hot menu, & desserts)
  • Caterpillars in the salad
  • Excessive fat content/butter in foods
  • Food borne illnesses
    • E. Coli outbreak, cases of food poisoning, and, somehow, Hepatitis
  • An inability for students to connect with the nutritionist due to the number NOT BEING IN SERVICE (try it yourself: 615-460-6398 will redirect you to: 615-568-9212 which is not in service)
    • This is unacceptable as there are students with special dietary needs
  • Undercooked meat
  • Undercooked vegetables
  • Low quality ingredients
  • Soy in Chicken
  • Stopped serving grilled chicken
  • Limited servings/extremely small portions at the 360
  • Closing at 7pm on weekends, leaving students with no dining options
  • Excessive oil (a pool of oil) in omelets & 360 food
  • Extremely few dining options in the evening and in "limited" meal periods on weekdays on weekdays
  • Reformatting of the dining hall for prospective students
    • Results in no sandwiches being served on the weekends and inconsistent scheduling
  • No more Taco Tuesday

This is not a reflection of the quality of character of the cafeteria workers, but is a reflection of the quality of food that they produce. It is entirely unacceptable that Belmont prioritizes construction, expansion, & prospective students over currently enrolled students (in more ways than simply the cafeteria), resulting in severe volatility of the quality of food.
