Youth Football Safety in the PYFL (Pacific Youth Football League)
The Issue
I am writing this to request that the Pacific Youth Football League (PYFL) enact a rule to have every player weigh-in prior to each football game. Actually this is not a request for a new rule but simply for the PYFL to enforce the current rules for weight limitations. I have been coaching football since 1990, for many years there have been teams are often blessed with amazing athletes, both large and small. But how large is too large and when does safety take a backseat to winning? There will always be players in all divisions that are noticeably bigger, faster, stronger and have a clear advantage over other players. I am in no way saying there is anything wrong about gifted athlete, this is not about athleticism….this is about weight differences, safety and fair play. This is about having safe rules in place to ensure a children are competing fairly and safely. It is about players play within their age and weight limits. Initially players are to "certify" with their prospective teams and weigh in prior to the season and are supposed to stay within that division’s weight limits. I am asking PYFL to enact a rule that will demand that EVERY player weight in PRIOR TO EACH GAME. This would ensure fair play and that every player on the field is playing within their prospective weight and age divisions. The PYFL does not oversee each game and as a result, the weight differences between players are placing children in danger of serious injury from another player weighing more than 75lbs or more than them. The pregame weigh in's take appx 15 mins, players are quickly weighed on a scale before the game. If a player does not make the weight, they should not be playing in a game until they make that divisions weight.
One would think this is a rule that would be widely accepted by the PYFL and coach's in charge or our child's safety, but it is not. In fact there are certain teams/coach's that are adamantly against this, but yet it is a rule that is widely accepted by most other youth football leagues. Help make a change that will ensure the safety of our children and enable them to enjoy the game of football for years to come.
WE NEED "WEIGH-IN's" prior to each game!!!!!!
