Abortion is criminalized by Philippine Law. Articles 256, 258 and 259 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines. Yet, many mothers around the country choose to abort their children by using pills, drinking supposedly prohibited alcohol, even going as far as using pennyroyal, parsley, and cotton root bark, a set of herbs that naturally induce a miscarriage, loosening a foetus' hold in the mother's placenta.

In 2000, 27 out of 1,000 women aged 15-44 (roughly 473,400) had abortions, while 78,900 women were hospitalized for post-abortion care.
 

The following are reasons why mothers choose to get rid of their babies:

1. They want to be the best parent possible to the kids they already have.
2. They’re not ready to be a parent yet.
3. It’s not a good time in their life to have a baby.
4. They want to finish school, focus on work, or achieve other goals before having a baby.
5. They’re not in a relationship with someone they want to have a baby with.
6. They’re in an abusive relationship or were sexually assaulted.
7. The pregnancy is bad for their health.
8. They just don’t want to be a parent.

Other than getting rid of a foetus, there are effects on the mother after having an abortion, including:

1.  Infection of the womb
2. Some of the pregnancy remaining in the womb
3. Continuation of the pregnancy
4. Excessive bleeding
5. Damage of the entrance to the womb (cervix) 

We believe that life is important. Though nobody can scientifically prove when life actually begins, we know from the Bible that God is the creator of all things, and He is the source of all life. Life is holy, pure and inviolable, and we must respect it as we respect God, the giver of life. Throughout the whole Bible it is clear that God knows all things, also that which is to come, and has known this from eternity. In this way He has also always known each person, each life – even before conception.
 

Life is not ours to take, and God’s Word clearly says, “You shall not murder.” Exodus 20:13. “Terminating” a developing life for these reasons is just as much a sin against God and the unborn life.
