Over 1 million disposable coffee cups are placed in landfills worldwide every minute, where they each take over 20 years to break down.This is not sustainable , nor conducive to tackling climate change, and has negative impacts for marine wildlife and their habitats. Replacing these cups with ones which are compostable, just in NUIG, could have a significant impact, and even be beneficial for businesses, in terms of decreasing bin charges for smokeys, the bialann and SU shop.
