There are animals every day getting abandoned but told to return them to people who are very unstable. Not only homeless but mentally n financially unstable. I had a dog named Siebia and she was with me 60 days. The owner had a history of violence drugs alcohol mentally unstable in n out of jail and mental hospitals. He's abandoned 2 dogs one which my husband n I have custody of. The dog that was taken from us n given back to the owner. Seibia had a warm stable place a yard toys and other dogs to play with. The cops told me to give back the dog. I asked would u send a child home with an unstable parent? They said we are not dealing with a child. We r dealing with piece of property or posession. But yet they have custody battles in court for animals. The omaha police even had a funeral for one of their dogs. So animals are more than just a piece of property. They say in the law to if a person had a "piece of property" for more than 30 days that property is legally theirs. I know I probably don't stand the chance of getting Siebia returned for proper care but I can make a difference and save animals from going from being stable to unstable. I need everyone to sign this petition to give animals the voice to be heard and give them the right to be safe from being sent to people you yourself can prove to be an unfit parent. Animals have rights too and deserve a fair chance. If I can't get Seibia back atleast save the animals from this hurtful law that they are only a posession. They are family. They are just like children. We humans take them to hospitals, feed them, bathe them, take them for rides and to parks. All things you do with a "child". I want it to be passed no animal shall be forced to go anywhere until the cops or humane society do a proper investigation on dwelling situation, means of taking care of it financially, license n shots. Everything set up and ready for that animal. Give animals like Siebia and Roxy a chance of happiness. I had Seibia for over 60 days basically fostering her while the owner was in jail. I told the police I didn't want her going with the owner until he was stable. He's abandoned 2 other dogs in the past that I know of. I was told I had to return her. It saddened myself n my husband n my other animals knowing the police didn't care how Seibia felt or what Seibia wanted. Roxy lost her playmate. I am fighting to either have her returned to me and or I am fighting to give these innocent animals a voice as to what they need in life to survive. Being homeless or in a sleeping room and having an owner on drugs n alcohol n in and out of jail is not stability for them.
